This past week we experienced a magnificent snowfall that left Middletown and the surrounding areas looking like a winter wonderland. One can’t help but admire the pure white that was covering the ground and the sense of stillness and quiet that snow creates. Today, as we anticipate more snow on the way, these two verses come to mind:
Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Psalm 51:7
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
We were scarlet. We were filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Have you tried to get the stain of scarlet out of your clothes? Have you ever tried to wash a filthy rag out? You can scrub your hardest and get close to getting out all the stain and dirt, but the cloth is never fully restored. However, through the sacrifice of Jesus, we ARE fully restored! Jesus makes us not only white - but whiter than snow! Through Jesus, we are sanctified - made holy and set apart - 1 Corinthians 1:30. Today, look around at the snow, be reminded of all He has done, and “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4,8)
