This past Wednesday we reviewed the Book of Daniel. Daniel's name means "God is my judge" and his book shows the sovereignty of God in the difficult situations he and his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, faced. Throughout the book, God's sovereignty over all is displayed.

Daniel 4:17 states the purpose of the book is "to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men."

Another key lesson from Daniel is that we must stand firm for the Lord in a compromising world. Daniel and his friends loved the Lord and were committed to following God despite the challenges, threats, and likelihood of death that loomed over them. We must make the choice to do similarly in our lives. "We ought to obey God rather than men" - Acts 5:29.

At times, you may feel like the enemy always seems to be in control and winning - you may be losing hope and wavering in your faith.

However, Jesus tells us in John 16:33 - "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” The truth is that God is in always in control and that He has won! Not only that, but 1 Corinthians 15:57 tells us that God "giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!" We share in the victory and are considered victors!

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." - 1 Corinthians 15:58
